Meet the Founder

Karl-Henrik Robèrt

Karl-Henrik (Kalle) initiated the development of The FSSD framework in the late 1980s while working as a cancer researcher and cancer doctor at Karolinska (Institute and Hospital) in Sweden. Inspired by his concerns about environmental and social degradation and its impacts on human health, Kalle sought to apply scientifically explored (re)design principles to address sustainability challenges.

His work with FSSD has had a significant impact globally, influencing sustainability practices in business, government, education, and civil society. He has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to sustainability, including the Blue Planet Prize and the Green Cross Millennium Award.

In addition to his work with FSSD, Kalle has served as a professor at several leading universities and authored numerous publications on sustainability, environmental science, and systems thinking. As a prominent figure in the field, he remains a steadfast advocate for transformative change towards attractive futures. Which have to be modelled within sustainability constraints that are robust for (re)design. If futures are not modelled that way or stand that test, they are not in the future.

“It is both easier, more fun and more efficient to work with such an overview as the framework gives”

Karl-Henrik Robèrt, Founder of FSSD and Professor of Strategic Sustainable Development at Blekinge Institute of Technology
