Kalle Reflects on How the Laws of Nature Underpin the Logic of the Operative System
Takeaway for leaders at all levels, everywhere
Many of my Reflections refer to the laws of nature—not as abstractions, but to understand the logic behind how the boundary conditions of the Operative System were formed into an absolute operative definition of sustainable re-design. For those of you who may not clearly remember the Laws of Nature from school, this Reflection invites you to download a PDF – an easy-read “picture book”. Regardless of your current knowledge of physics and chemistry, this provides an accessible introduction to how physics and chemistry work together to explain the evolution of life—and how life itself has shaped the conditions on Earth that make human civilization possible.
This perspective, in turn, makes it easier to follow the logic behind how this delicate system can be systematically eroded by a small number of mechanisms—no more than eight—and how one can progressively eliminate one’s own contribution to them by applying the Operative System’s boundary conditions for redesign of any organization, product, region or other topic.
For those who wish to go still deeper, there is also an opportunity to download a scientific publication on the same topic: From Big Bang to Sustainable Societies, co-authored by Professor Karl-Erik Eriksson, Professor of Theoretical Physics, and myself.
Understanding more in detail
Understanding is always about integrating knowledge at a more profound level than simply believing something because it was stated by someone with authority.
It is true that, in a world where specialization has advanced far in depth while the pace of everyday professional life has accelerated, finding time for deeper learning is often difficult. Where, then, does one find the time for a deeper dive?
Yet it is never too late to take one step further in understanding. For those who have already applied the Operative System of FSSD to improve multiple facets of strategic sustainable development—ecological, social, and financial—curiosity about the deeper logic behind the framework often grows over time. The two texts accompanying this Reflection are intended for leaders willing to invest that additional step in understanding.
Conclusion
This Reflection offers a lens for deeper understanding of how the Operative System for strategic innovations towards scalable futures was discovered. Grounding strategic sustainable development in the laws of nature strengthens confidence in the Operative System, enabling decision‑making based on clarity and overview.
That deeper confidence is not an academic luxury, but a practical asset for leaders to simply have at hand—whether it serves personal curiosity or proves helpful when responding to questions that may arise.
